Once a booking is made, amendments are not allowed. Cancellations are allowed up to 21 days before the arrival date of your quarantine booking, including full refunds.

Due to a large number of exceptions to quarantine granted on arrival at HIA we are experiencing an exceptionally high number of requests for refunds. Important Information for all arrivals from red zone countries 

  • Any adults (18 or over) who have received both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine from a medical facility in Qatar, with the second vaccine received at least 14 days before the date of entry into Qatar, are exempted from quarantine
  • Any child up to the age of 16 will be exempted from hotel quarantine if accompanied by a parent who has received the vaccine in line with the above qualifications. The child will be required to quarantine at home for 7 days.
  • For parents travelling with a minor aged 16-18 where the minor has not received the vaccine in line with the above qualifications, they will need to book a “Welcome Home Package” and follow the same conditions outlined in the rest of this document, regardless if the parent has received the vaccinations or otherwise
  • Effective Sunday, 14Feb21/0001hrs Doha Local time all those arriving into Qatar from countries not included in the Green List, are required to hold a Discover Qatar hotel quarantine package booking. Previous exemptions for those that fall under the vulnerable groups category no longer apply. Exemptions remain in place for Diplomats and their families holding ID cards issued by MOFA and Admin card holders, holders of EEPs with private quarantine   
  • Quarantine requirements will be determined by the country from which the flight departs and whether it is included as a ‘Covid Low Risk Country’ or not. Please see MOPH website for the current list. As this list can be revised at any time, we strongly recommend that you check this regularly for any changes that may affect your plans.
  • Please do not book a “Welcome Home Package” until you have read all of the information on this page, you have approval to travel to Qatar, and you know what type of quarantine you will be required to complete.
  • There is a daily limit on arrivals entering Qatar and demand is extremely high.
  • If you are searching for availability and no hotels are displayed, it is most likely that the daily arrivals limit has been reached. You will need to choose another date.
  • Discover Qatar are not involved with the Exceptional Entry Permit process and are unable to assist with any queries about your certificate.

Recommended Steps for QID holders and Personal Visit Visa holders

  1. Visit Qatar Portal to request approval for your Exceptional Entry Permit
  2. Once approved, check the “Type of Quarantine” stated on your certificate. If this states “Hotel” then you must book a quarantine package hotel from Discover Qatar
  3. Check availability for your confirmed flight.
  4. Book your quarantine package hotel.
  5. Book your flight. 
  6. Ensure you have copies of your Exceptional Entry Permit and your Discover Qatar Quarantine Hotel Voucher, as well as your flight documents when you check-in for your flight. If you cannot produce these documents, you may not be able to board your flight. Dates for your arrival and your hotel check-in must match.

Do I need an Exceptional Entry Permit?

Qatari and GCC nationals

Qatari or GCC National’s do NOT need an Exceptional Entry Permit and are allowed to enter the state of Qatar using their passports according to the country they are travelling from. Their sponsored companions who are holding a Qatari resident permit are also allowed to return to Qatar without the need for an exceptional entry permit, as long as they are travelling with their sponsors in the same travelling party.

QID holders or Personal Visit Visa holders

If you are a QID holder or Personal Visit Visa holder you will need an Exceptional Entry Permit to enter Qatar. Pre-approved QID resident permit holders are required to obtain ‘Exceptional Entry Permit’ approval via the Qatar Portal. QID residents who are currently in the State of Qatar and wish to travel and return will automatically receive an ‘Exceptional Entry Permit’ upon departure.

 

Are there any exemptions to the Exceptional Entry Permit requirements for QID holders?

Non-Qatari passengers are exempted from the Exceptional Entry Permit requirement irrespective of their nationality or origin if they are sponsored by a Qatari Company and the owner of the company (Qatari national) is traveling with them when they enter Qatar.

There are no restrictions to the number of passengers that can travel with the Qatari company owner. The owner of the company should hold a Commercial Registration (CR) which states the owner’s name. The sponsor name mentioned on QID of the non-Qatari passengers should match the company name in order for the above exemption to apply.

Quarantine requirements will still apply to all members of the travelling party.

 

Do I need a hotel booking to enter Qatar?

All travelers departing from Qatar will need to book and pay for one of the approved quarantine hotel packages if arriving from a high risk country. Your hotel package must be booked before departure from Qatar if the exceptions listed below are not satisfied.

Check in at HIA will not be permitted without a valid Discover Qatar quarantine hotel voucher, if the return country is not on the list of low risk countries, and one or more of the exceptions below are not satisfied.

If you are entering into Qatar via the Abu Samra land border, you will not be permitted to cross the border into Qatar without a valid Discover Qatar quarantine hotel voucher.

Eligible travelers currently outside Qatar will also need to book and pay for one of the approved quarantine hotel packages. The mandatory self funded quarantine period is 7 days, if arriving back into Doha from any country not on the list of low risk countries or if not eligible for home quarantine.

If you plan to travel from a low risk country, you need to have been in that country for at least 1 week before you will be allowed to travel to Qatar and home quarantine. If you have not been in that country for 1 week you will be considered to have travelled from a non-low risk country and will be required to enter self funded quarantine for 7 days. If you cannot self-isolate from home, you can alternatively book a 7 night welcome home quarantine package instead.

 

Am I exempt from quarantine if I have received the full vaccine in Qatar?

If you are traveling from any red zone country, exceptions to the self-funded 7 day quarantine, which are instead excempted from all quarantine requirements if the following all apply to each adult (18 years and over) in the travelling party:

  • All adults have received both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine from a medical facility in Qatar
  • The second dose of the vaccine was received no less than 14 days before the date of return to Qatar. If you arrive back in Qatar within 14 days of receiving the second dose of the vaccine, you will be required to home quarantine for 7 days, or the number of days required to complete the 14 days period. Whichever is shorter.

If all parents on the booking qualify for exemption from quarantine due to meeting the above criteria, and there are minors in the travelling party, any minor under the age of 18 on the date of return to Qatar is exempted from hotel quarantine and will be required to quarantine at home for a period of 7 days

If the travelling parent(s) are not fully vaccinated any accompanying non-vaccinated children below 18 years of age will be required to undertake hotel quarantine, along with the parent(s).

For pregnant ladies, breastfeeding mothers with a baby up to 2 years old, home quarantine will be allowed if travelling with a fully vaccinated relative living in the same household

Am I exempt from quarantine if I have received a full vaccine while overseas?

The following is the protocol for inbound travellers vaccinated abroad, effective from 04/04/21:

1. The vaccine received should be one of the COVID-19 vaccines recognized by MOPH. This includes:

a. Pfizer/BioNTech

b. Moderna

c. AstraZeneca

d. Johnson & Johnson

2. The full course of the vaccine should have been administered. It is one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and two doses of the other vaccines.

3. Two weeks should have passed since the 2nd dose, and for the Johnson & Johnson 2 weeks from the one dose.

4. There should be an official vaccination card or certificate complete with the following details:

a. Name of the recipient.

b. Date of vaccination by each dose.

c. Type of the vaccine.

d. The lot number of the vaccine

e. Official logo and/or official stamp of the vaccination authority/unit.

f. If in doubt of the authenticity of the certificate, verification may be necessary through the embassy of the country where the vaccine was administered.

5. The recipient of the vaccine should test negative for COVID-19 on PCR either on entry into the country or to submit a negative test result from one of the COVID-19 testing centres abroad recognized by the MOPH. The validity of the test result should not exceed 72 hours upon arrival.

6. The health status on Ehteraz will remain green for the person who meets the above requirements and they will be exempted from hotel or home quarantine upon entry.

7. If the recipient of the vaccine did not complete the 2 weeks post-vaccination, Citizens and Residents should be subjected to home quarantine for 7 days or until they complete the remaining of the 2 weeks, whichever is shorter. However, visitors from GCC who didn’t complete the (14) days post-vaccination, are hotel quarantined for (7) days.

Please contact MOPH directly at HQCProtocol@hamad.qa to confirm that you meet the above criteria, and that you are exempt from quarantine.

If you have already booked a quarantine hotel and are now exempt from quarantine, please send confirmation as received from HQCProtocol@hamad.qa along with your booking reference to dqwelcomehome@qatarairways.com.qa no later than 48 hours before arrival, and we will cancel your booking and issue a full refund. Please note refunds can take up to 60 days.

Are there any other exemptions to the self-funded 7 day quarantine?

If you are traveling from any red zone country, exceptions to the self-funded 7 day quarantine, which are instead required to undertake 7 days mandatory home self-isolation, are:

  • Those holding an EEP with private quarantine waivers
  • Foreign Diplomats and their respective family members holding MOFA issued IDs or admin card holders or international organizations staff with MOFA
  • Travelers returning from one of the low risk countries listed on the MOPH website
  • Travelers who are 75 years old and above. They are also permitted to be accompanied by one member of their household who will also be able to undertake 7 days mandatory home self-isolation

Other common FAQs

 

Can I self-quarantine at home?

If you meet the criteria listed under the exceptions lists, then you will be able to self isolate at home for a period of 7 days. After the 7 day home self isolation has elapsed, the traveler must go to one of the dedicated health centres to get another Coronavirus test. If the result is positive, the traveler will be transferred to isolation, and if it is negative, the quarantine period ends.

 

What if I am unable to self-isolate at home?

If for any reason you are unable to self-isolate at home, then you should purchase a self-funded hotel quarantine package. For 7 night self-funded quarantine, use the search calendar at the top of this page to book.

 

What if my Qatar ID has expired?

If your QID has expired while you have been outside of Qatar you may be permitted to re-enter Qatar to renew your QID, after you have been approved to travel and have successfully completed your mandated quarantine period.

 

Can I fly with an airline other than Qatar Airways?

Yes, and the same entry conditions will be present for Qatari Nationals and QID holders.

 

If I have already had a positive test for Covid-19, can I travel?

No, once you have recovered and tested negative you can travel, by adhering to the entry and quarantine requirements already outlined.

 

Can I take a pet into a quarantine hotel?

No, pets cannot be accommodated in quarantine hotels. If you are planning to travel with pets, you will need to make appropriate arrangements for their safe return to Qatar.

No, you will need to make your booking directly with Qatar Airways Holidays in partnership with Discover Qatar for a stay at an approved quarantine hotel.

 

Your safety and comfort are the highest priority – upon arrival and at your hotel

 

What will happen on arrival into Qatar?

Those flying into Qatar via HIA airport

Upon arrival at HIA, if you are required to enter self funded quarantine, you will be directed to a transfer to take you to your hotel. Otherwise you must make your way directly home, without stopping on the way, and self isolate at home.

Those driving into Qatar via Abu Samra land border

After completing border control formalities all travelers will be asked to drive directly to their chosen hotel, without stopping where you will be met by hotel security who will guide them to their dedicated parking area. They will then check in and begin their 7 day hotel quarantine.

All members of the travelling party will be required to sign a declaration, stating that you will drive directly to your pre-booked quarantine hotel. There will be a dedicated time period allowed before arrival is expected at your hotel.

 

What happens at the end of the 7-day self-funded quarantine period?

After completion of the 7 day self-funded quarantine, the traveller must go to one of the dedicated health centres to get another Coronavirus test. If the result is positive, the traveller will be transferred to isolation, and if it is negative, the quarantine period ends at the end of that week and the traveller’s status on the Ehteraz application will change to green.

 

If I am flying into Doha, how will I go from the Airport to the Hotel?

A compulsory one way transfer will be provided.

 

If I am driving into Doha via the Abu Samra land border, will there be valet parking when I arrive at my hotel?

No, all travellers will need to drive and park their car in the dedicated parking area.

 

Is there any limit to how much luggage I can bring in the transfer which is provided?

Land arrivals

No, there is no limit to the luggage you can bring to the hotel upon check-in.

Flight arrivals

Luggage space is limited to one piece of checked in luggage and one piece of hand luggage per passenger. Additional charges will apply if you have excess luggage that cannot be accommodated into the transfer vehicle provided.

 

Can I pre-book additional luggage allowance on my transfer?

Yes. Pre-booking is strongly recommended to avoid delays at the airport.

Passengers arriving into Hamad International Airport without pre-booking the additional luggage allowance will need to pay the fees prior to boarding the transfer.

 

What steps are in place to ensure safety in the hotels?

Your hotel will be compliant with the Qatar Clean program. Qatar Clean is a collaborative effort by the National Tourism Council, Ministry of Public Health, and the hospitality and tourism sectors.

The program has been carefully designed to align with best practices and expert protocols to ensure remarkable levels of cleanliness, hygiene and safety for our guests and front line workers.

What precautions are in place for hotel staff?

Hotel staff will also be under quarantine and will follow MOPH guidelines.

 

Have hotel staff been tested / are they routinely tested for Covid-19?

Yes.

 

What will happen if there is an outbreak in a hotel?

You will be required to follow instructions of Ministry of Health staff in the hotel.

 

What medical services are available?

Medical teams will be at the hotel 24/7

 

Will testing for Covid-19 be available at any stage?

Yes.

 

What happens if somebody in my travelling party tests positive for Covid-19 at any time of quarantine?

You will be directed to follow the instructions provided by MOPH staff at the hotel. This may mean that you are required to extend your period of quarantine. Should this happen, you will be charged for any additional nights you are required to stay in the hotel.

 

How many meals will be served?

All hotel reservations will be on full board basis. This will consist of breakfast, lunch and evening meal as a minimum.

 

Will food be delivered to my room?

Yes, food will be left at the door of the room.

 

Can I share the room?

Only with direct relatives. A maximum of 2 adults and 1 child 6 years or under may share a room.

 

Can I book a family room or interconnecting rooms?

Once you have confirmed your booking online, email us your booking reference and we will do all that we can to secure a family room for you. Please be aware, that under no circumstances can this be guaranteed.

Similarly, if you wish to request interconnecting rooms, please call or email us to make your booking. We will not be able to guarantee the request, but will do everything that we can to make the arrangements.

Will I have access to laundry facilities?

Yes, but this might be at additional cost. This will be advised at the time of booking.

 

How often will bed linen be changed?

Once a week as minimum.

 

Will I be able to use extended room services?

Yes - this might be available, depending upon your chosen hotel, at an additional cost.

 

Can I use outdoor facilities at the hotel (e.g. Pool)?

No, leaving the room is prohibited.

 

What facilities are there for children?

There are no specific facilities for children; leaving the room is not allowed for any reason.

 

Will I have access to cooking facilities?

No.

 

Will I have access to Hotel facilities like gym, pool, restaurant, bar etc?

No, leaving the room is prohibited.

 

Will there be an accessible prayer room?

No, leaving the room is prohibited.

 

Can personal items or food be delivered to the hotel?

Yes. Items can be delivered to the hotel, but no items are allowed to leave the hotel until the quarantine period is completed. If food is being delivered, this must be safely packaged in disposable containers. Any cutlery or similar items should also be disposable.

 

Is there provision for outdoor exercise?

No.

 

Will I be able to have contact with family members or friends who are based in Qatar, at any time during quarantine?

No. Physical contact is not allowed.

 

Will I be able to have contact with family members or friends at any time during quarantine (where they are also in quarantine)?

No, unless you are sharing a room.

 

If anyone on my travelling party has special needs, how do we communicate this?
