Trip highlights
Muscat
Grand Mosque - An architectural wonder, you will be in awe at the magnificence of the 'Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque'. It is one of the most beautiful and extravagant mosques in the world and well worth a visit.
Muttrah Souq - Here we will venture through its labyrinthine of alleyways which are filled with traditional Omani products including imported fabrics, exotic Oriental spices, perfumes and handcrafted artefacts. If you are in the mood for shopping you will find everything from famous Omani khanjars (daggers), antiques, traditional silver jewellery and hand-made Omani costumes.
Nizwa
A visit to the old capital of Oman will not disappoint. With a plethora of museums, local markets and architecture dating back centuries, you will feel like you have taken a trip back in time to medieval Oman.
Nizwa Souq - The highlight of the Souq is the Cattle Auction which takes place every Friday. We highly recommend you visit if you are in Nizwa on a Friday. You will also have the opportunity to explore the air-conditioned halls of the souq which are lined with stores selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to herbs and spices and huge stacks of dates and freshly caught fish.
Nizwa Fort - The 17th century round tower fort is one of Oman’s most impressive towers. While at the fort you will witness truly breath-taking panoramic views of Nizwa and the surrounding plains! Fun fact – The fort was designed to withstand the vibrations of 24 cannons.
