Skopje Holidays Experiences
- The symbol of the city, apart from its fortress, is the 6th century Stone Bridge, which connects the main square and the old bazaar. At over 214m long, it’s a magnificent feat of engineering that every ruler has added to over the years, turning it into an eclectic mish-mash of styles.
- The city park is the largest green space in Skopje, and has a museum and several monuments within its boundaries. It’s a wonderful place to relax, picnic or take a stroll around the city zoo and stadium. During the summer, it’s also home to some of the best nightclubs, while concerts and sporting events take place in the stadium.
- The city is packed with historical interest, from Ottoman inns such as the Kurshumli Han and the Kapan Han, through to museums that chart the country’s rich history. To find out more about traditional Macedonian culture, visit the Macedonian National Museum and Icon Gallery.
- Further outside the city is the Matka Canyon, home to a breath-taking dam and the quirky restaurant, the ‘Bear’s Cave’, which is housed in a cave in the canyon wall. If you still have some energy left after the trek, and you want some spectacular views, climb the Vodno Mountain to the south of the city.
