    Frequently Asked Questions

Best time to travel to Georgia for a holiday?
      +
      –
Because of its location, Georgia can be subject to some changeable weather. However, the country is roughly divided into two main zones, depending on the proximity of the towering Greater Caucasus Mountains. Western Georgia is reasonably warm all year round, although you will encounter particularly heavy rain during the autumn months. The foothills and mountains have cool, wet summers and cold, snowy winters.

Travel to eastern Georgia and you’ll encounter a more continental climate with fewer extremities of harsh weather, even during the winter. Head here during the summer months for dry, sunny days and mild nights. To avoid the heaviest rains, travel from June through to August.

In Tbilisi, the climate is much drier and you’ll find average temperatures at around 28-31°C, while during the winter months the thermometer drops down to single figures of around 7-8°C at best.

Where is the best place to travel to in Georgia for a holiday?

      –

Holidays to Georgia with Qatar Airways Holidays usually start in Tbilisi, one of eastern Europe’s oldest cities. This fascinating city has been the site of human habitation since the early Bronze Age, and because of its location bridging east and west, has always been a hugely important centre for trade and commerce. It’s filled with superb galleries, historical buildings and museums, and the city’s parks and open spaces are charming and a welcome break from the busy streets.

This mix of modern and medieval makes Tbilisi one of our must-see destinations. However, while Georgia is a relatively small country, there’s plenty to see and do. Those who love the outdoors will be able to hire a car and head to the mountains for some wonderful hiking and cycling trails, where you can enjoy the first flushes of spring during April and May, or go climbing and skiing during the winter months.

Religion is important to the Georgians, so you should show the proper respect when visiting religious sites. Dress appropriately, and don’t take photos unless there are signs expressly giving permission for you to do so. Women wearing trousers or shorts will not be allowed into some Georgian Orthodox churches.
