Highlights / General details
Fresh from a sold-out run at Boston’s American Repertory Theater, WAITRESS makes its highly anticipated Broadway premiere. Funny, uplifting and surprisingly poignant, this irresistible slice of life features original music and lyrics by 5 time Grammy® nominee Sara Bareilles (“Brave,” “Love Song”), a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam) and direction by Tony Award® winner Diane Paulus (Pippin, Finding Neverland).
Tony winner Jessie Mueller (Beautiful) is Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. Faced with an unexpected pregnancy, Jenna fears she may have to abandon the dream of opening her own pie shop forever… until a baking contest in a nearby county and the town’s handsome new doctor offer her a tempting recipe for happiness. Supported by her quirky crew of fellow waitresses and loyal customers, Jenna summons the secret ingredient she’s been missing all along – courage.
The Broadway cast includes Eric Anderson, Christopher Fitzgerald, Drew Gehling, Kimiko Glenn, Dakin Matthews, Keala Settle, with ensemble members Charity Angél Dawson, Jeremy Morse and Stephanie Torns. Inspired by Adrienne Shelly’s beloved film, WAITRESS is an empowering celebration of friendship, motherhood and finding the strength to pursue even the wildest dreams.
